Can You Travel In and Out of Chattanooga?

With winter weather still affecting parts of our state, traveling in or out of Chattanooga is a concern for many.

In Chattanooga, most of the city is able to be travelled with the exceptions of some roads in the higher elevations.

Officials still warn drivers to stay home if travel is not absolutely necessary.

Going toward Nashville, most roads are passible, however, there is still snow and ice on some portions, as seen in the photo above at I-40 Eastbound at SR 223.

Take a look at the icicles hanging from the camera at I-40 Eastbound Broadway at Mile Marker 209.31 in Nashville.

Notice some areas of snow and ice are on the road, but it is passible.

Truckers are still on duty, as seen in this image from I-24 Sam Ridley Parkway at Mile Marker 65.5.

What about Knoxville?

Going towards Knoxville is clear for the most part, however, there still could be some slick spots on roads.

I-75 Northbound at Riceville shows some ice or snow on grassy and low lying areas, but the roads seem clear.

I-40 75 at Papermill Road shows some potential black ice on the roadways, but drivers seem to be having no issues as far as going into Knoxville is concerned.

As always, try to avoid travel if possible due to the potential for ice and snow on the roadways, but if you must be out, have a plan of action in case of an emergency.
