Monteagle ranked as road to avoid in winter weather

Survey finds it is the 2nd most avoided highway by Tennesseans

MONTEAGLE, Tennessee (WDEF) – Monteagle Mountain makes a list of the winter routes Tennesseans try to avoid.

RVWindshieldReplacement.com surveyed three thousand drivers on the routes they avoid the most in winter.

And I 24 over Monteagle Mountain rated second in Tennessee.

It’s the steep grades, sharp curves, fog and ice that scare us off.

The survey found that a lot of locals will just delay their trips instead of descending the mountain in icy weather.

The top rated road scare in Tennessee is U-S 441 in the Great Smoky Mountains National Park.

It is the road that connects Gatlinburg to Cherokee, NC over Newfound Gap.

The highway is often closed by heavy snowfall.
