Georgia bill would let you turn gold into payments
ATLANTA, Georgia (WDEF) – A Georgia lawmaker is proposing letting residents pay their taxes in gold or silver.
State Senatore Randy Harbin has introduced a bill allowing Georgians to use the precious metals for daily payments.
It would work like a debit card.
You would have to convert your money into gold or silver, let the state guard it, and then spend it electronically.
A similar gold bill hits the books in Florida in July.
“Florida’s new law is the most comprehensive to date,” Harbin said.
“Starting July 1, 2026, gold and silver coins and bullion that meet purity standards will be legally accepted for transactions and protected from state taxation. The law also enables electronic gold payments, making gold practical in daily life.
“Arkansas paved the way in April 2025 by eliminating capital gains taxes on gold and silver and allowing their use in commerce,” Harbin said. “Together, these states have created a blueprint for monetary freedom, combining historical wisdom with modern technology.”
