Parents accused of locking sick child in hot car

VARNELL, Georgia(WDEF) – A Chatsworth couple is facing child cruelty and negligence charges after their sick child was reportedly left in a hot car.

According to the arrest report, the incident happened on Saturday at Big D’s Flea Market.

An unidentified person flagged down a Whitfield County deputy after finding an 8-year old girl left alone in a parked car.

Further investigation by the deputy revealed a puppy was also left inside the hot parked car.

The little girl told the deputy her mother was inside the flea market.

She also told the deputy she felt sick.

The deputy reportedly drove the girl around to the other end of the market when he was flagged down by the girl’s father who was identified as Franklin Jaynes, 31.

Jaynes told the deputy his daughter had only been left alone in the car for three minutes.

Both parents were immediately taken into custody and EMS was called to check on the girl.

According to a paramedic, the girl’s body temperature was 101.7 after sitting in the deputy’s air conditioned patrol car for 15 minutes. She was transported to Hamilton Medical Center for treatment.

According to the arrest report, while both parents were being transported to the Whitfield County Jail, Jaynes reportedly asked the deputy if he would let him go if Wells took the blame for what happened to their child.
