Walker County authorizes remediation of courthouse
LAFAYETTE, Ga. (WDEF)- The Walker County Courthouse will be getting some needed repairs.
The Commission approved a nearly $170,000 dollar contract with Gordian to address various issues with the courthouse.
A Gordian representative said asbestos, mold, and lead were found inside the Courthouse after environmental testing.
They said the mold was likely being caused by structural issues in the roof, allowing water to get inside the building.
Walker County Chairman Angie Teems commented, “The average number of visitors per year is 55,000 to 71,000 people and one year not too long had 98,000 people go through that structure. So it’s not safe for the public, it’s not safe for the people who work there, but we’re on it, aren’t we?”
After this remediation is completed, further renovations will be considered to the Courthouse.
