Local Reaction to Cop Resigning After Sending Nude Pics

Sergeant Eddie Bonnett worked for the Cleveland Police Department for 14 years.

But the police department said after he sent a nude picture of himself to a coworker – a woman who works directly under him – a complaint was filed against him last Wednesday and he submitted his resignation Friday.

The married man with one child maintains his innocence, admitting he did send the picture…. but to the wrong person.

In light of this texting scandal, some local people chimed in on what they thought of sending naked pictures over the phone and whether this is ever a good idea.

"I think once it goes out, it’s anywhere," said Dave Davis of Canton, Ga. "It’s like Snap Chat. They say it goes away. It doesn’t go away. I work in computers. I understand that the digital images are always out there."

"I would just feel very violated," said Kaitlyn Walker of Knoxville. "And I don’t know you that well. That’s personal. That something you should only see yourself and that’s a very intimate relationship you’re immediately asking me to have with you so I’m not going to agree to it and I just feel that’s a very private matter that shouldn’t be exposed like that."

"Once a picture like that is taken, it’s out there forever," said Tom Lerch of Chattanooga. "You don’t know who’s going to do what with it. It’s very very very poor judgement."

Officials saud the exchange did take place on personal cell phones.

Bonnett was first placed on leave but submitted his resignation before a full internal investigation began.
