Chattanooga Zoo invites families to annual Hug a Bunny Day
CHATTANOOGA, Tenn. (WDEF) – Spring has arrived and that means a popular Easter tradition is returning to the Chattanooga Zoo.
Each year the zoo hosts its Hug a Bunny Day event where visitors can meet several breeds of rabbits and take photos with the Easter Bunny.
Zoo officials say the event is meant to be fun for families while also reminding people that rabbits require a serious commitment as pets.
Jake Cash, Director of Marketing and Communications for the Chattanooga Zoo, says many rabbits purchased around Easter end up abandoned or surrendered to shelters.
“It is really not good for the animals, and it also causes overflow in shelters.”
Cash encourages families to enjoy interacting with the animals at the zoo instead of buying a rabbit on impulse.
“So instead of that come out, pet lots of rabbits, spend time with them, and enjoy the experience without doing anything that could potentially endanger an animal.”
Hug a Bunny Day will take place April 3 and April 4 from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m.
Due to high demand regular zoo tickets will not be available on those days.
General admission will be included with each Hug a Bunny ticket.
Zoo officials recommend purchasing tickets in advance to secure a spot at the event.
