Mayor Wamp Addresses Primary Ballot Question

Last week, a letter from the Tennessee Republican Party said several republican candidates would be removed from the primary ballot.

This letter listed several local candidates including County Mayor Weston Wamp and County Trustee Bill Hullander.

Mayor Wamp says there were some key details that voters were not made aware of.

Mayor Weston Wamp told us, “What that letter didn’t explain is that there were different reasons that people were being removed from the ballot. Some were on a basis of bona fide status, whether they had voted in enough primaries to be considered a bona fide republican –I’ve voted in every republican primary since I’ve been an eligible voter, so that wasn’t my issue. My issue was that I wasn’t made aware of a registration fee that I needed to pay – 250 dollar fee. So I made the payment within ten minutes of being notified, and on Friday, the same day the letters went out I was restored to the ballot.”

Mayor Wamp says that same registration fee issue affected Trustee Hullander, who is now back on the ballot.
