River Market Returns For Season
CHATTANOOGA, Tenn. (WDEF) – The Chattanooga River Market is back for the season, bringing local vendors, artists, and small businesses to the Tennessee Riverfront.
Some vendors make the drive from outside the area to participate, drawn by the sense of community the market fosters.
As small business owner Brady Williams explained, “Without having a community you don’t really got anything and then be able to meet people and interact and have these conversations seeing what people love to work on getting up makes other people have their own ideas like saw this guy last year. He said I motivated him to get back into woodworking, and I was like dude that’s awesome. I’m happy that just me being here to do that for somebody.”
For many vendors, the River Market has become a seasonal tradition.
Julie Simpson, now in her eighth season at the market, said the event has grown alongside its loyal customer base. “The market itself has grown and we have seen it grow and the people that you know there’s a lot of local supporters lot of loyal supporters. We listen to what people like we try to design things actual local hotspots landmark that people actually see in the scenic city,” she said.
Simpson also described how the products her business creates are inspired by the local area. “We wanted to do something locally and we thought that at the time there wasn’t a whole lot of Chattanooga merch so to speak and so we thought it would be great to kinda showcase the things that we see around the scenic city the beauty,” she said.
Beyond the products themselves, many vendors say the face-to-face connections with visitors are the highlight of the market.
Dawn Challenor recalled a recent interaction with a young customer. “Its a community builder like we had a little girl yesterday she was our parents telling her to pick something out pick something out and then later on she came back and she just wanted a business card but you could see the streaks in her face so I had this little tiny baby kitty one and I gave it to her anyway you know they were like oh so it builds rapport with the people being face-to-face with people it’s just so nice,” Challenor stated.
With dozens of vendors lining the riverfront and more weekends ahead this season, the River Market continues to celebrate local creativity while fostering a strong sense of community along the Tennessee Riverfront.
