Meeting time once again discussed by Hamilton County Commission
CHATTANOOGA, Tenn. (WDEF)- The Hamilton County Commission once again discussed when they should hold their weekly meetings.
Commissioner Gene-O Shipley proposed that meetings go back to 9:30 a.m. on Wednesdays.
The meetings have been held at 4 p.m. since a trial change proposed by Commissioner Jeff Eversole was approved last year.
Several commissioners believe that the meeting should remain at 4 or later to give more constituents a chance to attend meetings after work.
However, others believe that the cost of keeping employees late, along with little change in weekly attendance, makes evening meetings inconsequential compared to their morning counterparts.
Shipley said in response to other commissioners receiving emails about keeping the meetings later, “I don’t have this problem with my constituents. I have one lady here today in Mrs. Duvall, and she’s going to be here day or night.”
One resident, Michaela Winter, said, “The public has been extremely clear that it’s time for evening meetings. It’s time for the county to join in with other bodies in Hamilton County.”
The Commission will decide on a time at their meeting next week.
