Scammers are using AI tools to mislead you

NASHVILLE (WDEF) – Tennessee officials warn consumers the scammers are not using AI to fool you.

Specifically, the Department of Safety and Highway Patrol are warning about text messages you make get on unpaid traffic tickets.

They say the messages are fake, but they are getting more believable.

Officials say scammers now can use AI-powered phishing tools to make their pitches sound more “governmental.”

So it’s harder to spot a fake now than it used to be.

The scammers can now use official language, steal government branding and use real names and messages on a larger scale, all to convince you the text is legitimate.

The bottom line is the state will never send you messages about overdue fines, fees or payments.
