Chattanooga Chamber’s Hixson Council Tackles Key Issues
HIXSON (WDEF) –The Hixson Council of the Chattanooga Chamber of Commerce welcomed Coty Wamp at its monthly networking luncheon on Thursday.
Wamp addressed one of Chattanooga’s growing concerns—homelessness—speaking to local business and community leaders about the challenges surrounding the issue.
During her remarks, she connected homelessness to broader public safety concerns, including nuisance crimes and repeat offenders. Wamp emphasized that without direct and open conversations about how to address the unhoused population, meaningful progress will be difficult.
“I think when we’re talking about priorities, we’re talking about public safety, we’re talking about nuisance criminal offenders. We’re talking about homeless,” Wamp said. “Until we really start to have the conversation about how we’re going to tackle this unhoused population, then we’re not going to see any change.”
She also called on the community to be part of the solution.
“I’m willing to start it, and I need the community to help me continue that conversation,” she said.
Wamp says addressing homelessness in Chattanooga will require a coordinated, community-wide effort involving law enforcement, local leaders, and support organizations.
