Home Fire Safety Patrol strives to save lives

Educating the community on fire safety is not just important; it can save lives.

The Chattanooga Fire Department (CFD), in partnership with the International Association of Black Professional Fire Fighters Brothers United-Chattanooga, is continuing to expand community outreach and community risk reduction efforts in local schools with the Home Fire Safety Patrol program.

They say members of the command staff and our public educators were at Hardy Elementary School this week to kick off the program with second graders.

The Home Fire Safety Patrol helps students learn the importance of working smoke alarms, the meaning of the sounds they make, and where they belong in a home, the CFD says.

Students also learn how to identify common home fire dangers and how to plan for a home fire.

The program is built around several classroom lessons that teach students the basics about smoke alarms and fire safety.

There are also take-home sections to involve families in this life-saving learning experience. Families can also request free smoke alarms (while supplies last).
