CHATTANOOGA, Tenn. — To honor those who donated organs, Erlanger will hold a flag raising ceremony on Wednesday, April 8 at 10 a.m. in recognition of the 23,788 organ donors who brought new life to organ transplant recipients across the country in 2025.

“Organ donors are heroes and being able to help patients who have been ill for years prior to a transplant, is a big part of why I love my job. There are more than 100,000 people in the U.S. waiting for an organ transplant. 3,000 of them are right here in Tennessee.”

Dr. Alan J. Koffron, Surgical Director for the Erlanger Kidney Transplant Center and Erlanger Hepatobiliary Services said.

Erlanger says the transplant waiting list is added to every eight minutes. Just one registered organ donor can save up to eight lives, restore sight to two people, and heal 75 people with their tissue.

The ceremony at Erlanger Baroness will be held in the POB Conference Room, followed by the flag raising at the main entrance.
