Local Veteran to receive new home from Habitat for Humanity
Habitat for Humanity is working with a local veteran to get her in a home.
Emma Grier Joined the US Army in the 80’s, following in her brother’s footsteps.
Like many in our community, she fell on hard times and needed help finding a stable living situation.
Habitat for Humanity is now working with her to build a new home that she can call hers.
Emma Grier, Future Habitat for Humanity Homeowner told us, “Habitat is a great organization. They’ve been with me through the thick and the thin and I like the way they are helping me to afford a house and the avenue they have taken to taken me to help me accomplish that goal.”
This home build was made possible by over $100,000 raised by the annual Women Build Brunch, which sponsored Emma to build her new house.
Ryan Weseloh, Assistant Director of Habitat for Humanity of Greater Chattanooga told us, “Emma first applied and went through a variety of qualification factors. She had to prove that she would be able to afford a mortgage at the end of the program. The habitat homeowners will pay for the home and they had to have a willingness to partner. Emma has been partnering with us for a little bit now and putting in sweat equity hours, financial education, that sort of thing. Emma and all our habitats have a significant amount of skin in the game.”
At the end of the program, Emma will be paying a 30 year, zero interest loan to help her build equity.
