Georgia passes new penny bill

ATLANTA, Georgia (WDEF) – Georgia lawmakers are dealing with the end of the penny.

The House approved a bill on Thursday to round up or down bills when you pay with cash.

That means if the $3.11 charge would be rounded down to $3.10.

And $159.99 would go up to $160.

The U.S. government has stopped making pennies, so this law would mean you wouldn’t have to carry them.

But credit card purchases wouldn’t be affected.

The bill now goes to Gov. Brian Kemp.
