Clay Fuller, Republicans celebrate congressional hold in District 14 Special Election

RINGGOLD, Ga. (WDEF)- We now know who will replace Marjorie Taylor Greene in North Georgia’s 14th Congressional District.
After a two round election, former Lookout Mountain Judicial District Attorney Clayton Fuller has defeated Democrat Shawn Harris.
22 candidates began this journey back in January, the majority of those Republicans.
Clay Fuller had to outlast a dozen fellow GOP members to make it to the one on one showdown with Shawn Harris tonight.
Despite questions over how the ongoing war in Iran along with high gas prices could possibly affect this race, one of the most Republican districts in the country remains red as Fuller defeated Harris by double digits.
The Republicans such as Georgia Republican Party chair Josh McKoon who gathered to celebrate Fuller’s win say this is a sign that their party is not weakening in the Peach State.
McKoon said, “When Republicans are united, when we share a common purpose and on the same page, we win.”
Fuller’s win was primarily bolstered across the District by a strong Election Day performance.
For example, take a look at these numbers from Whitfield County.
Harris actually won 57.1 percent of the advance voting, one of three counties he had a strong early performance in alongside Cobb and Floyd Counties.
However, on Election Day, Fuller won 63.1 percent of Tuesday’s vote, which featured roughly three times the amount of casted ballots compared to advance voting.
This led to Fuller winning 57.5 percent of Whitfield County’s vote overall, a pattern repeated across North Georgia, as he won all counties outside of Cobb County.
Fuller says the endorsement of President Donald Trump, including his February visit to Rome to campaign on his behalf, was the key difference.
Fuller said, “So much of what the story has been when this race started and so much of what you’re gonna hear from the fake news media is that President Trump doesn’t mean anything to Georgia 14 anymore. Well you can see with the results on March 10 and you can see the results of what we’re seeing here today is that President Trump is the most critical factor in our election. He has made sure that we are going to win. He made sure that he was the ultimate Trump card.”
Republicans say tonight’s result is proof that campaign fundraising does not correlate to votes.
Filings from the Federal Election Commission show that Shawn Harris raised over six million dollars for this campaign, while Fuller only raised over one point two million.
Both Fuller and McKoon claim most of that money came from outside the district.
McKoon said, “All the king’s horses, and all the king’s men could not turn northwest Georgia blue.”
Fuller says now is the time to get to work.
He said, “Y’all are the most hard working people in the entire country, in the entire world. I’m gonna go fight for you and just like President Trump said, I will never let you down… God is good.”
Fuller will have to defend his seat in November for the regularly scheduled Congressional Elections during the midterms.
