CARTA’s parking enforcement delayed by city council
CHATTANOOGA, Tenn. (WDEF) — Chattanooga City Council has delayed CARTA’s plan to begin booting vehicles with outstanding parking tickets.
CARTA’s resolution would allow them to boot vehicles with three or more parking violations.
Some council members worried that this resolution would financially burden some community members.
That is why council members added an amendment to the legislation allowing people with a large outstanding balance to enter a payment plan.
Dennis Clark sits on the council for district five.
He said, “If you come downtown and you park and you are immobilized, you have the opportunity to pay the 75$ booting fee, with a 25% initial downpayment, and then enter into a structured payment plan. This is not uncommon for other cities our size.”
The amendment will delay CARTA’s plans by at least a week.
The resolution reverts back to first read, and will need to pass a second read before CARTA can begin going after repeat offenders.
