Sheriff Talks

"The majority of Muslims will say that they believe it is Allah’s will that the whole world become Islamic in order to have peace. In order to do that, there are too many radicals out there that are willing to use killings and torture and all kinds of things in order to accomplish that."
Hamilton County Sheriff Jim Hammond first brought up the issue of radical Muslims during Monday’s Pachyderm club meeting.
That brought a strong response from several organizations.
The American Center for Outreach, the American Civil Liberties Union of Tennessee and the American Muslim Advisory Council put out a statement saying the Sheriff went too far with his comments.
Hammond says he’s only stating facts.
"One thing I’m not going to do is apologize for as Sheriff of this county, I took an oath to protect every citizen of this county from anything happening to them that’s in violation of their constitutional rights."
Hammond says that oath includes all of the citizens of Hamilton County.
But he’s frustrated those who are upset with his comments aren’t talking to him.
"They won’t sit down and talk about issues, what they want to talk about is how do we discredit this Sheriff. How do we make enough noise that people will say well he needs to be told to shut up. When you are told to shut up in our Government, you’re on danger ground."
