East Ridge Police Officer involved in serious crash on Ringgold Road
UPDATE: We are learning more about a crash involving an East Ridge Police Officer.
According to the East Ridge Police Department (ERPD), an officer observed a white Ford Explorer failing to maintain its lane while driving southbound of McBrien Road.
The Officer activated his emergency lights and maneuvered for a traffic stop.
They say the Ford Explorer immediately accelerated and ran a red light at the Ringgold Road intersection. In the process, the suspect struck an East Ridge Police vehicle that was responding to an unrelated call.
The accident resulted in the Police Officer being entrapped in his patrol vehicle and the driver of the Ford Explorer was ejected from his vehicle.
Firefighters responded and extracted the Police Officer from the vehicle.
EMS responded to the scene and transported the Police Officer and the other driver to a local hospital for treatment, according to the ERPD.
All lanes are now open, and THP has cleared the scene.
EAST RIDGE, Tenn. (WDEF) – East Ridge Police Department advises the public to stay clear of the 5300-5400 block of Ringgold Road Tuesday morning due to an ERPD office involved car crash.
Tennessee Highway Patrol has been called to the scene.
According to ERPD, a nightshift patrol spotted an erratic driver southbound on McBrien Road.
The sergeant radioed other units about the driver.
A few moments later, that driver entered the intersection with an East Ridge Officer on Ringgold Road, striking his vehicle and causing the patrol unit to roll.
The officer had to be extricated by East Ridge Fire and is at a hospital in stable condition.
The other driver was also transported to a hospital after being ejected from their vehicle.
The area will be under investigation and there may be lane closures.
