Erlanger to offer Aquablation Therapy through AI-powered robotic system to treat enlarged prostates
CHATTANOOGA, Tenn. — Erlanger Health has shared they are the first health system in Chattanooga to offer Aquablation® therapy with the new HYDROS™ Robotic System.
This is an AI-powered robotic system that is transforming how men find relief from one of the most common yet undertreated conditions in men’s health: benign prostatic hyperplasia (BPH), commonly known as an enlarged prostate.
“BPH is a widespread condition that severely compromises quality of life for countless men over the age of 50. Aquablation therapy allows men to live a full life again and find relief from symptoms while preserving sexual function and continence,” said Dr. Amar Singh, Urologist at Erlanger and Professor and Chair of the Department of Urology at the University of Tennessee.
Around 50% of men ages 51-60 have BPH, and 99% of men say BPH impacts their quality of life, Erlanger says.
Erlanger says BPH makes it difficult to urinate and fully empty the bladder. Common indicators that a man may be experiencing BPH are the need to urinate immediately or urgently, urinating more often than normal and urinating frequently at night.
They say without timely treatment, BPH can lead to severe health issues such as permanent bladder or kidney damage, bladder stones and incontinence.
“Using insights from more than 50,000 procedures, allowing for a more accurate and consistent treatment plan for every patient, AI assisted Aquablation therapy sets a new standard in prostate care,” adds Dr. Singh. “Unlike traditional surgical approaches that carry significant risks to surrounding nerves and tissue, this minimally invasive procedure uses real-time, ultrasound-guided, robotic-assisted waterjet technology to precisely remove only the problematic prostate tissue leaving critical structures intact.”
