Dalton lawmaker apologizes for blackface photo

A north Georgia lawmaker is apologizing for an old photo that shows him in blackface.

Dalton representative Kasey Carpenter says he was impersonating Kanye West in the photo from 2017.

He acknowledges that West has some questionable views, but he is a great music performer.

He posted that he hates that the photo has been divided along political lines.

Carpenter says he thinks that if you respect someone, skin tone does not matter.

But he admits he missed the mark with that reasoning.

Carpenter faces Jasper Manis in the May 19th Republican Primary.
