Man arrested by ICE in Chattanooga dies in Louisiana in custody

A man who was arrested by Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) in Chattanooga in January of 2026 has died in ICE custody in Louisiana.

49-year-old Alejandro Cabrera Clemente was found unresponsive at Winn Correctional Center on April 11, 2026. Once found, staff began life-saving measures.

According to U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement, at approximately 8:51 am, an onsite physician at Winn Parish Medical Center (WPMC) pronounced Cabrera deceased.

They say Cabrera’s history includes convictions for disorderly conduct, drug possession and probation violation and an arrest for domestic violence. 

ICE says Cabrera entered the United States illegally and without inspection over 25 years ago and that he also has criminal charges for domestic violence, failure to appear, disorderly conduct and a traffic offense, dispositions pending.

Cabrera was arrested by ICE on Jan. 8, 2026 in Chattanooga, Tennessee and was transferred to Winn Correctional Center on Jan. 13, 2026. He was held in ICE custody pending removal proceedings before the Executive Office for Immigration Review, according to U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement.
