Hamilton County Health Department raises awareness on sexual assault

CHATTANOOGA, Tenn. (WDEF) – It’s Sexual Assault Awareness Month and the Hamilton County Health Department is bringing awareness to help break down the stigma.

Sexual Assault is extremely common no matter the age or gender, though it happens to women the most.

While physical injuries are the number one signs for sexual assault, there is also the emotional signs which is love bombing, manipulation, financial abuse, etc. Other signs if the person is being sexually abused is noticing they have become withdrawn, avoid a men/women, or changes in personality.

To help support someone who experience sexual assault, offer plenty of comfort, listen, and help provide resources.

The Hamilton County Health Deptartment provides prevention programs for students that teaches boundaries and relationships. They also table events to spread resource information and direct victims to Partnership for Families, Children & Adults or the Family Justice Center.
