Jasper Middle School Student Advances in National Competition

CHATTANOOGA, Tenn. — One Jasper Middle School student is making some major moves.

Andrew Dunn is currently in the quarterfinals of the nationwide America’s Favorite Student competition, and now the community is rallying behind him with daily votes and online support.

If Andrew wins, he could receive 20-thousand dollars toward his education, appear in Reader’s Digest, and even meet Bill Nye the Science Guy. Andrew says the opportunity could help him achieve his future goals.

“I want to go to Vanderbilt and it would be nice having some money that I can start off with tuition,” said Andrew Dunn, America’s Favorite Student Quarterfinalist.

Jasper Middle School Principal Dr. Heath Thacker says Andrew’s success is something the entire school is proud of.

“It’s great because he’s gonna get the opportunity to go outside of the four walls here in this building and go and make an impact in the world somewhere,” said Dr. Heath Thacker. “We’re super proud of him and hope that he gets to go all the way to the finals.”

Dr. Thacker says Andrew’s journey is also creating inspiration for other students across campus.

“We tell people all the time we have great students here and they’re given great opportunities,” said Thacker. “Hopefully he inspires another student next year to do this as well and opens up opportunities for our kids.”

Community members are encouraged to continue voting online as Andrew competes for a spot in the finals.
