Car partially submerged in rising floodwaters

CHATTANOOGA, Tenn. (WDEF) – News 12 was on the scene just outside Finley Stadium on 20th Street, where a car became partially submerged in rising floodwaters.

While on scene, we spoke with the Chattanooga Police Department, who stated there were no injuries and that the driver was able to safely return home.

A short time later, we met the driver, Marlin, who explained that the roadway conditions changed quickly.

“The water wasn’t like that before,” he said.

Two Good Samaritans who work with the stadium also stepped in to help.

Ben McClary and Abshir Farah, employees with Chattanooga Football Club, waded through the water in an attempt to assist with the stranded vehicle.

Unfortunately, they returned with disappointing news.

“Yeah, the car is stuck in park, and we can’t get it into neutral to push it,” Farah explained. “We’ve just got to call a tow truck. It kind of sucks.”

As storms continue moving through the area, officials are urging drivers to use caution on flooded roadways and avoid driving through standing water whenever possible.

We will continue keeping you updated on current weather conditions throughout the area.
