Safety Festival Marks Start of Summer

CHATTANOOGA, Tenn. (WDEF) – As summer gets underway, Erlanger and community partners hosted an event Saturday focused on helping families prepare for the months ahead.

The fourth annual Summer Outreach Safety Fest, also known as SOS Fest, took place at the Carver Community Center.

The free event brought together local health, public safety, and community organizations to share resources and safety information ahead of the busy summer season.

According to Erlanger, the festival focused on summer-related safety topics, including water safety, fire prevention, driving safety, elderly care, and firearm safety.

“SOS Fest is how we like to kick off the summer season; music, games, food, and door prizes, all while educating our neighbors on how to have a safe summer season,” said Erlanger Adult Trauma Injury Prevention Coordinator Regena Young. “It’s our own little safety block party!”

In addition to educational resources, the event included food trucks, music, games, exhibitors, and a Blood Assurance blood drive.

Organizers said the goal of SOS Fest is to combine community engagement with practical safety education, helping families head into summer with information and resources in one place.
