Parking Day

There are 60 fewer parking spaces in downtown Chattanooga.
So, instead of finding a spot to put your car, you’ll find some unique people and things in their places.
This is Parking Day, where mini parks will pop up in those metered spaces.
Some students from GPS came for all the fun.
Mady Oliver is a 7th Grader at the school.
"We’re doing arts and crafts and we have candy and chalk and cornhole and it’s free."
Parking Day was created by a San Francisco art and design studio.
The idea is to encourage communities to rethink the way streets are used, and create a healthy downtown.
All sorts of groups and businesses got a chance to promote themselves, like local fitness studio Barre One.
Kelly Delligatti is the Manager.
"So we focus on tiny isometric movements that sculpt and tone the body. So lots of small, little arm movements, one inch up, one inch down. And we work on arms, thighs, seat, core."
Have you always loved playing darts?
There’s a group downtown promoting that sport as well.
Michael Thompson is the Secretary for Greater Chattanooga Darting Association.
"We’re down here to promote darts. So, Chattanooga has a long standing dart organization. It’s been involved since 1980, roughly 1980 in Chattanooga. We’ve got about 400 active members."
This is the 8th year for Parking Day.
It’s sponsored locally by the River City Company.
