Tennessee is first to create Nuclear Fusion rules

OAK RIDGE, Tennessee (WDEF) – Tennessee hits another mark for leading the country in nuclear power today.

We are the first state to create its own regulatory framework for nuclear Fusion.

Leaders say Tennessee is the most responsive state for advanced nuclear companies.

A company is working toward opening the first commercial nuclear fusion plant in Oak Ridge.

It will also serve as a development campus for the Oak Ridge labs, TVA and U-T.

If all goes well, construction should begin in 2028.

“Tennessee has been named the top state in the nation for nuclear energy industry growth, and for good reason,” said Tennessee Department of Environment and Conservation (TDEC) Commissioner David Salyers. “This latest step supercharges our reputation as the global hub for nuclear innovation and positions us as the most responsive state to new advanced nuclear companies clamoring to call Tennessee home.”
