HCEMS reports success of Whole Blood program
Hamilton County EMS (HCEMS) has reported success of their Whole Blood Program, which allows first responders to give patients blood before they arrive to the hospital.
They say HCEMS crews administered the first unit of whole blood in the field over the weekend following a critical motor vehicle crash.
The patient received additional units of blood after arriving at the emergency department.
They say as we enter the “100 Deadliest Days of Summer,” when traffic crashes and traumatic injuries traditionally increase, maintaining a strong blood supply is more important than ever.
This new program is able to help save lives and serves as a reminder to how important blood is.
“This milestone demonstrates the lifesaving impact of our new prehospital whole blood program and the dedication of our crews, medical partners, and Blood Assurance in bringing this capability to Hamilton County.”
