Pat Summitt Will Continue in Her Role as Coach Emeritus at Tennessee

KNOXVILLE, Tenn. (AP) – Pat Summitt will remain the Tennessee women’s basketball head coach emeritus this season.
A contract obtained through a public records request states that Summitt has agreed to a deal that will pay her $75,000 for the upcoming season. She received the same amount last year.
The one-year contract says Summitt will have the title head coach emeritus "in perpuity, or until she chooses to relinquish it." That language also was included in last year’s contract.
The Knoxville News-Sentinel first reported that Summitt had agreed to remain head coach emeritus.
Summitt has been head coach emeritus since stepping down as the Lady Vols’ head coach in April 2012, one year after announcing she had early-onset dementia, Alzheimer’s type. Summitt won eight national titles and a record 1,098 games at Tennessee.
