CARTA to host meeting on future of Brainerd corridor

CHATTANOOGA, Tenn. (WDEF)- CARTA wants to hear from commuters who travel from and through the Brainerd area.

They will be hosting a community feedback session Wednesday evening at the Chris L. Ramsey Center on Moore Road.

In that meeting, CARTA will give residents a chance to discuss the state of the bus route that goes down Brainerd Road, as they are analyzing how to improve services in that area.

Proposals have included building micro hubs, which would be new bus stops with seats and sidewalks, as CARTA President and CEO Charles Frazier says accessibility in the Brainerd area right now is a challenge.

Frazier said, “From a transit perspective that area is the highest likelihood of success for demonstrating what good transit can do here in Chattanooga. It’s heavily resourced. We have a lot of bus service there. The problem is there’s missing sidewalks along the corridor. People are standing in the street to catch the bus, there’s lack of shelters, there’s no mobility hubs.”

He says he would love to see service expanded into East Ridge as they see some of their residents travel to Brainerd Road to catch a bus.

That meeting on Wednesday is from 5 to 7 p.m.
