Senior Dog Adoption
Senior dogs face a much tougher road to adoption than puppies. That is why Sam Darraj has created a way for those senior dogs to be brought to the spotlight.
“You know something in my heart just melts for these pitties and they and they have a little bit more trouble especially a seniors being brought in because sometimes people are afraid you know what the history was and if they are aggressive or not, but I dealt with so many of them just looking in shelters and stuff just trying to meet stuff and I mean most of those senior ones are not aggressive at all. You know they just need somewhere to go. They just need somebody to love on them.” says, Sam Darraj.
Sam’s passion comes from one of his first senior dogs’ rescues, a pitbull named Lily. Sam wasn’t a dog person, however when he began working from home his friend convinced him to adopt Lily.
“So I started looking for another senior you know kind of help me get over it you know and of course it’s not the same dog. It’s a different dog, but the love, the love is still there you know. I found Lily and Lily stayed with me so long and she traveled with me when I was traveling for work. She’s spent six months in a hotel with me in South Carolina. You know she’s been all over the place you know and she just was my companion all the time anytime I need anything anytime I was upset. She knew she came to me every night as soon as I sat down on the couch right on top of my feet the rest of the night you know what I mean.” says, Sam Darraj.
Sam expresses why he wants more people to consider adopting older dogs and give them a second chance.
“No one wants to put their loved ones into a nursing home, right, and just leave them there and never visit. And never do anything, and just leave them there. And then that person, they are going to decline very quickly you know. And it’s the same thing they are out in a situation that they can’t control.” says Sam Darraj.
After Lily, Sam created a website that you can go to to see senior dogs that are in need of adoption and also tips on how to keep your senior dogs happy and healthy. You can go on their visit and donate and read more about their story.
