Hamilton Co. Health Department warns of risks of feeding wild animals
The Hamilton County Health Department (HCHD) is warning individuals of the risks that come along with feeding wild animals.
They say although wildlife may appear cute, feeding them can be dangerous for both you and the animals.
Animal bites are a common source of serious infections and can occur through contact with an infected animal, a contaminated surface, or its habitat, according to the HCHD.
They say bites and scratches pose a significant risk of illness, including rabies, which primarily spreads through bites or scratches from infected wild animals such as raccoons, skunks, or foxes.
To protect yourself, your family, and your pets, it’s best to keep a safe distance from wildlife.
