Despite Fourth Shooting Police Say Violence Still Down

A fourth shooting in as many days leaves police wondering if all this gun violence is related.

Chattanooga Police are investigating Monday night’s shooting at 2800 Third Avenue.

19-year-old Jonathon Joseph Black went to the hospital with a gun shot to the ankle.

"We are investigating to see if it’s involved with the three from the previous night," said Chattanooga Chief of Police Fred Fletcher. "We have had officers out on the ground, knocking on doors. Talking to people and developing leads constantly over the last 36 hours. We will leave no stone unturned,"

But even with this latest string of shootings, police say violent crime is still down.

That’s when its compared to this time last year.

"Murders are actually down significantly compared to last year," Fletcher said. "And I attribute that to partnerships with the community. We’ve been able to put more officers on the street on a daily basis than we have many years before and those officers are building relationships with the community that help people be and feel safer which is why over all crime is down, property crime is down significantly and violent crime is trending in the direction we want."

No suspects are in custody at this time.
