Governor Nathan Deal Breaks Ground in Trenton for Large Factory
Trenton, GA (WDEF) – Vanguard National Trailer Corporation based out of Indiana has decided to set up shop in Trenton, Georgia where they will fully assemble their semi trailers, bringing in over 400 jobs to the rural town.
Governor Nathan Deal flew in from Atlanta to help break ground.
After a lengthy selection process, Vanguard picked Trenton from many other towns in the southeast.
"After studying the state programs available to us in Alabama, Tennessee and Georgia we chose Georgia because of the support we were getting from the Georgia Economic Development Corps and from the Georgia Quick Start program," said Charlie Mudd who is the President and CEO of Vanguard.
"That’s why we’re the number one state in the country to do business because we’ve been able to put all of these components together," Georgia Governor Nathan Deal said.
The 350 thousand square foot facility will be able to produce 10 thousand semi trailers annually.
Currently, Vanguard is having to backorder semi trailer orders for a full year.
The 30 million dollar facility is being constructed by general contractor JMWilliams Contractors, a design-build contractor based out of Marietta, Georgia.
Local politicians, businessmen and the public agree this is a win for all.
"I think it’s great. There’s a lot of people here that are out of work and really need a job," Silva Morgan of Trenton said.
"Well it will give a lot of people here at home a place to work at instead of having to go an hour drive," said Denita McDaniel of Trenton.
"I think it’s wonderful. It’s what we need, the industry here," said Ruth Nelson of Bryant County.
Mudd says hiring will begin in the spring and hopefully by July, the factory will begin manufacturing.
