St. Sen. Todd Gardenhire Responds to Insure TN Resolution
State democrats have made it an issue to try to pass the insurance program again in the next legislative session.
One of the Senate Republicans who played a key role in defeating the plan last year responded to the City Council resolution.
State Senator Todd Gardenhire (R-Chattanooga):
“It is disingenuous for the council to tell the legislature what to do about health care when just a few years ago they cut $1.5 million per year for indigent care. This was done despite health care experts telling them the money was critical to treat these patients.TheCouncilcouncil had their opportunity to make indigent care a priority. They declined it.If the council wants to lecture the legislature on health care issues, I would strongly suggest that they firstrestore theseindigent care funds.Until then, this resolution will be seen as what it so clearly is: thinly-veiled, highly-politicized hypocrisy.”
