TVFCU Celebrates 90th birthday

CHATTANOOGA, Tenn. (WDEF) — The Tennessee Valley Federal Credit Union celebrated a milestone Friday.

TVFCU and the Chamber of Commerce hosted an event at the credit union’s downtown headquarters to celebrate the 90th birthday of the financial institution.

TVFCU’s story started at the tail end of the Great Depression when a few TVA employees invested their own dollars into a co-op.

Todd Fortner, President CEO, TVFCU told us “To think about where we started from 57 employees at TVA came together and pulled $500 which is today’s dollars is about $11,000 and I started a financial institution as a cooperative and they had no idea what it would go to and here we are today.”

TVFCU is hosting giveaways and refreshments at its branches to celebrate the occasion.
