Planned Parenthood speaker in Chattanooga

Chattanooga, TN (WDEF) – One of the most debated organizations this election cycle has been Planned Parenthood.

A guest speaker from Planned Parenthood addressed the Greater Chattanooga Democratic Women’s Club at I.B.E.W Local 175.

It was a time for member and non-members of the Greater Chattanooga Democratic women’s club to learn more about what Planned Parenthood does and how they are handling the controversy surrounding them.

External Affairs Coordinator for Middle and Est Tennessee Plannned Parenthood organization, Elise Gibbons, was there on to speak about the controversial videos released earlier this year.

The organization came under fire after videos were released claiming the organization was selling fetal tissue parts.

Gibbons wanted to inform the members about what is true and not tue about the organization.

"We are a national leading provider of women’s health care in this country. Women turn to us for life saving cancer screenings, they turn to us for birth control, family planning counseling, abortion services."

Which is what one local pastor, Father Davis Carter, can’t ignore.

"I have no doubt that there is some good that they do. But we all hopefully do some good, but we can’t use the good that they do to mask the evil that is done."

Gibbons said that she hopes people start recongizing and take a postive stand for Planned Parenthood.

"Folks across the country are fighting back. And they’re ready to tell these people who have released the videos, that Planned Parenthood isn’t going anywhere. And we’re going fight to keep their doors open."

Despite the other servives the organization offers Father Carter does not support anything they do.

"Until they stop doing that, there is no way to plan…there’s no way defend Planned Parenthood."

The Greater Chattanooga Democratic Women’s Club meets once a month. They invite both women…and men to attend their meetings.

There are no abortion clinics in Chattanooga.

The closest ones are in Nashville, Knoxville, and Atlanta.
