Full Story on Dalton Cold Case Murder Arrest
A homeless woman was arrested and charged with a murder committed 30 years ago in Delaware.
Thanks to social media, Sandra Hartzag was finally tracked down.
"They ended up finding her on Facebook and that led to some pictures and things that our investigators were able to use to determine that she was living in one of the homeless camps here in town and sort of help us make that connection and make contact with her," Frazier said.
Investigators from New Castle, Delaware found her at a known Dalton homeless camp.
They brought her in for questioning and charged her with the murder of Joseph Braun in his home on Jul 1st, 1985.
She was also charged with robbery in the first degree and possession of a deadly weapon during the commission of a felony.
If not for the Facebook posts, Hartzag may have gotten away with murder scot free.
"She has a completely free rap sheet as far as Dalton," Frazier said. "She hasn’t so much as gotten a traffic ticket or even been listed as a complainant or another person in our system so she’s managed to stay out of trouble ever since this incident."
At the Providence Ministries shelter and mission in Dalton, Hartzag wasn’t a familiar face.
"She’s never stayed in our mission," said Providence founder Roy Johnson. "Some people say they might have seen her you know in the kitchen eating but I haven’t had any definite confirmations of that but we have so many people come through here but we know for sure she did not stay in our shelter."
She is currently being held at the Whitfield County jail and awaiting extradition back to Delaware.
Investigators say Hartzag’s boyfried took part in the the 1985 murder.
But he died in 1997.
One of her boyfriend’s relatives eventually came forward with information for police.
