Fleischmann Transportation Bill

Chattanooga, TN (WDEF) – The U.S. House passed a transportation bill for the next 6 years.
Congressman Chuck Fleischmann says that’s good news for Tennessee.
The bill authorizes 325 billion dollars in spending through the 2021 federal budget year.
But it only provides enough money to pay for the first three years.
It also does not increase spending on roads from previous measures.
Despite those facts, Fleischmann is still happy with the bill.
He got 2 amendments passed in the legislation.
"One was to support the towing industry, the other was to support a geo synthetics industry. But the main thing is, this is going to be great for our country’s infrastructure. Roads and bridges are critically important."
The bill is similar to one passed in the Senate.
Congressional leaders say they hope to quickly work out the differences and send President Barack Obama a final bill before Thanksgiving.
