Jonathan Cochran: A Dual Enrollment Success Story

Dalton, GA (WDEF) – One Whitfield County teenager is already ahead of the learning curve, after graduating from Southeast High School, in May, with more than half of his college curriculum already completed.

Jonathan Cochran is just 18-years-old and is now scheduled to graduate from Georgia Northwestern Technical College this December with an Associate’s Degree in criminal justice.

Cochran said it’s all thanks to the school’s dual enrollment program he signed up for his junior year of high school. "Everybody needs to do it," said Cochran, "It’s a great opportunity, and from my understanding tuition’s completely free still to this day."

"If any other kid in high school has the opportunity or thoughts of doing this duel enrollment, I would highly encourage it," said Cochran’s father, David Cochran, "Look at it, and explore it. Give it a try, ’cause it’s well worth it."

Cochran said after he gets his degree in criminal justice, he’ll go on to get a four year degree in computer science from Kennesaw State, and after earning his Master’s he hopes to work for a federal law enforcement agency one day.
