CSLA Students Give Back to the Community

CHATTANOOGA, TN (WDEF-TV) – Many people here in the tri-state area find time every year to give back to the community.
And some of them are school kids.
Students at CSLA were busy Tuesday.
They were making the the world a little better as Thanksgiving day approaches.

The 6th, 7th and 8th grade students worked with Hope for the Inner City, two local animal shelters, Audubon Acres, and a child development center.
Others were making caps for the city’s needy. The CSLA youngsters actually learned how to knit for this project.

REBECCA MILLOTT, MATH TEACHER, CSLA "We’ve done this for different reasons, today its for the homeless shelter in Chattanooga, make hats."

MOHAMMAD EL-ETR, CSLA STUDENT "Some people are hel;ping out the school ..like some of the 8th graders are helping the the P.E. teacher ..helping out with his classes , and some people are sewing, and some people are donating toys."

CINDY GASTON, INSTRUCTIONAL COACH, CSLA "We want our kids to learn that its in the giving that you receive…so all of our students are doing service today and we’re really proud of them."

And that’s what the students were learning in half a dozen locations off campus.
Some partnered with Hixson Elementary on their Toys for Tots drive.
A group volunteered to clean up the CSLA school playground.

JOHN LAZENBY, 8TH GRADE, CSLA "Because I felt like it would be cool to help out my school by cleaning up the playground…and making it more safe for the younger kids."

Hope for the Inner City got a helping hand.

SUMMEI WEBB, 6TH GRADE, CSLA "We were assigned in groups to clean certain sections…and a man who is physically challenged..we helped him clean up his room."

SAVANNAH WASHINGTON "It makes me feel like I’m doing something in volunteering for my school..and helping others."
