Falcons in Free Fall After Third Straight Loss
FLOWERY BRANCH, Ga. (AP) – Five weeks into the season, the Atlanta Falcons looked like a lock for the playoffs.
Now, their postseason hopes are in real peril.
After losing three straight and four of their past five, the Falcons returned to their training complex Monday for a critical set of meetings, trying to figure out what went wrong.
Much of the blame falls on the offense and, specifically, quarterback Matt Ryan. He threw a crucial interception from his own end zone that was returned for a touchdown in Sunday’s 24-21 loss to the Indianapolis Colts.
After building a 21-7 lead on the first possession of the second half, the offense totally bogged down.
The Falcons (6-4) had only 52 yards over their final seven possessions, with as many turnovers as first downs (three each).
