Lawmaker Asks Attorney General Opinion on Banning Gun Sales
Senate Judiciary Committee Chairman Brian Kelsey from Germantown wants a legal opinion on the Nashville Metro Fair Commissioners Board banning gun shows.
Their reason is that the shows are on city owned fairgrounds.
Senator Slatery believes the shows are protected under recent legislation.
“Tennessee law is clear that local governments cannot regulate the sale of arms,” said Senator Kelsey. “The Metro Fair Board action is a thinly disguised effort to impose a liberal gun control agenda and deny citizens their Second Amendment rights.”
The Attorney General’s opinion is not the same as a court ruling, but it presents his view on whether the action violates state law.
The same legal arguments could be used against similar gun shows at the Camp Jordan arena here.
But East Ridge has shown no indication that they want to ban them.
