Alleged brother sister crime duo and sex offender admit to planned robbery
Brandon Grimes, 27, Kendal Small 20, and his step sister, Kaitlin Small were all arrested Tuesday morning as suspects in a robbery that reportedly started through messages on Facebook.
According to the arrest affidavit obtained by News 12, a 23-year old male victim was asked by Kaitlin Small to come to a residence in the 600 block of Gillespie Road. The request came through messages on Facebook.
When the alleged victim arrived at the front of the residence, Kaitlin Small reportedly hugged him, patted him down and asked if he had a gun on him.
According to the affidavit, right after the pat down, Kaitlin’s step brother Kendal Small and her boyfriend Brandon Grimes approached him and began to chase the victim.
The victim told police he ran to his car to get away but as soon as he got inside, one of the two men pulled out a machete and started striking the vehicle. According to the affidavit, the alleged victim got out of the car and started running when he was caught by one of the men holding a machete.
The victim was reportedly told to give over his money before he was punched in the face.
While alleged victim was being assaulted, the other male suspect reportedly went through the victim’s car and stole a camera and a cell phone.
Police contacted Kaitlin Small’s stepfather who told officers his daughter was at a residence several doors down on Gillespie Road.
When police arrived at that residence, they met with Kaitlin Small and Grimes. Both suspects gave police consent to search the house. During their search, officers located a machete hidden behind a basement wall.
Kaitlin Small later admitted to police that she helped set up the victim for a robbery. She also told police that her step brother and Grimes where only there to scare the victim and that she didn’t mean for the robbery to go down the way it did.
Grimes later admitted to police that he used the machete to break the windows on the victim’s car. He also admitted to punching the victim.
Both the step brother and sister have bonded out of jail.
Grimes remains in jail on a $125,000 bond.
Court records show that Grimes is a convicted sex offender who plead guilty to statutory rape back in 2010. He was also convicted of child abuse.
