Local Man says a Healthier Lifestyle is Helping him Fight Cancer

Hixson, TN (WDEF) – Allen Pedigo is kicking off 2016 in a very healthy way, "Oh yea I feel fantastic, I feel a lot better." Exactly one month ago, Pedigo was diagnosed with cancer in his throat and tonsils.

Pedigo said he began searching online for answers after he was diagnosed, and stumbled upon a new study out of Loma Linda University, showing cancer patients who ate a steady healthy diet of fruits and vegetables had a faster recovery rate than those who didn’t.

"Cancer is not so much hereditary anymore," said Pedigo, "It’s much more about your lifestyle and your environment that you’re around." That’s why Pedigo says he shops at Harvest Grocery in Hixson for his main source of nutrients.

"Oh it’s phenomenal," said the store’s fronted manager, Hall Miller, "It’s a wonderful place, you know, you can get things here that are not available in a lot of other conventional stores or other natural food stores."

Pedigo also says his healthy diet helps with the negative side effects of chemo-therapy, like nausea and fatigue.
