Vols Coach Rick Barnes Not Wearing Orange Blazer Against Vanderbilt
When the Vols face Vanderbilt Wednesday night, Tennessee head coach Rick Barnes is breaking with tradition by not breaking out the orange blazer. UT’s last three coaches have all donned the famous blazer for the Vols rivalry games with Vanderbilt and Kentucky. But Barnes says he just doesn’t feel comfortable sporting that blazer.
Barnes-"I appreciate tradition, but the one thing that I don’t ever want is for this program to ever be about me. I don’t want people to come to the game wondering if I’m going to wear an orange blazer or a tie."
Reporter: "I don’t necessarily think wearing an orange blazer makes it about you. So wear it."
Barnes: "Well first of all, I don’t have one. I’m not superstitious, and the fact of the matter is I think every game is important. So do I need to come up with something every game to get the people fired up? If it were up to me, I’d dress like Bill Belichick. Or how I am right now. This is the way I live my life."
Tennessee and Vanderbilt tip at 9pm on Wednesday in Nashville. The game will be televised on the SEC Network.
