Community leader says 911 tape should not have been released

“Do you know who did it? You just came home? Where were you?… “I was in the hallway crying.”

Hearing the 9-1-1 tape of a 5 year old who saw a gunman shoot and kill his mother and father that was released earlier this week. It is sure to trigger an emotional reaction in a lot of people … one local church leader doesn’t think releasing the tape was a good idea….

Pastor Kevin Adams of Olivet Baptist Church said “There are a lot of emotions out here right now, and we are trying to preach a message and convey a message of peace and then that comes out.”

After the audio was released on Tuesday, one day later, there was a shooting that police believe to be a retaliation for the homicide.

“The community is going to have to come together and say we are taking our community back.”

Lost in all the violence is the 5 year old who will have to bury his parents.

“If you use somebody, which you shouldn’t like that. The community should be going forth and contributing funds to help bury these people.”

Reverend Adams went on to say that the violence in the community can be stopped, but no one person can do it.

“We can reach these young men. We can reach these young women, uh, but the community is going to have to stand up as well, because no one entity, everyone is looking for this person. Is the church doing enough? Is the police department doing enough? Is the mayor doing enough? The real question is are all of us doing something?”
