Georgia voters may decide on casinos this fall after all

ATLANTA (WDEF) – A proposal to legalize casino gambling in Georgia passed a major hurdle on Thursday.

A constitutional amendment bill unanimously passed a House Regulated Industries Committee.

The latest version proposes the construction of four casinos across the state, 2 in the Atlanta area and 2 others across the state.

20% of the proceeds from each casino would go to the Hope Scholarship program.

The new version trims the number of casinos by two and increases the amount for schools.

The bill still has to be approved by the full house and senate, and then would go before the voters on the November ballot.
